About Columbus Youth Ballet

One of CYB’s goals is to train students who wish to pursue a dance career, either as a college dance major or by auditioning for dance companies. Our program is designed to produce well rounded dancers who are prepared to adapt to any style of ballet.

CYB also offers extensive training in Modern, Jazz and Tap and Pilates. Our faculty in these fields have drawn upon their years of experience to develop a comprehensive program providing the highest quality instruction for our students.

With its combined curriculum of ballet, modern, jazz, and tap, Columbus Youth Ballet offers its students a complete education for a future dance career.

CYB’s advanced, pre-professional students have been accepted into many prestigious ballet schools in the U.S. and around the world, including the School of American Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet School, American Ballet Theatre summer program, National Ballet School of Canada, Houston Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Boston Ballet, Royal Ballet in London, Julliard School, and the Stuttgart Ballet in Germany.

In addition to our pre-professional curriculum, CYB also offers a recreational dance program for students from pre-school to high-school levels. Students who wish to enjoy the excitement of dance as part of a well-rounded extracurricular schedule are provided with a solid foundation in dance technique in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. Students enrolled in this program will also have the option to perform in the Nutcracker and in our annual spring recital alongside our pre-professional students.

CYB’s goal is to instill qualities that will carry students through their entire lives. Whether they choose to pursue a career in dance or simply enrich their recreation and lives with self-discipline, poise and appreciation for the arts, studying at CYB is a rewarding experience.

Columbus Youth Ballet Project

Founded in 1989 as a non-profit pre-professional ballet performing company, Columbus Youth Ballet Project (CYBP) continues to provide an opportunity for talented and serious young dancers to showcase their capabilities and high standard of performance.

CYBP has attracted many renowned international guest master teachers and choreographers—including: Laura Alonso, Cynthia Harvey, Katrina Killian, Robert Gardner, and Sean Kelly—to work with our young dancers. CYB acquired the rights to perform Balanchine’s “Valse Fantasie”, “Stars and Stripes—Red Regiment”, “Raymonda”, Tchaikovsky’s “Suite #3, Elegie”, “Who Cares” (Concert Version), and Peter Martin’s “Eight Easy Pieces.”

Each year, CYB advanced pre-professional students compete at the Youth America Grand Prix Competition (YAGP), where they have won numerous awards in individual and group divisions, as well as overall awards as an outstanding school.

Columbus Youth Ballet holds a prestigious reputation as one of the most outstanding children’s performing arts companies in the country.
